This section contains the books with a publication date before 1960 and those that are hard to find because they are
out of print or because of their rarity and curiosity. The existence of this fonds dates back to the early 19th century.
Some of the older volumes come from the library of the Casa (house) Rossell in Ordino and they are in the process of
restoration.
The library of the Casa Rossell is an example of a family library of a wealthy home, the members of which received
a higher education (law, medicine, theology, etc.). This is reflected in the books that form it.
The Rossell fonds has been found in the BN since 1996.
This section contains classic works on Andorra, such as the first edition of La cotume d'Andorre by J. A. Brutails (1904)
or El medio y la vida en Andorra by S. Llobet (1947), among others, all of which are indispensable for researchers on
Andorran subjects.
Also of great interest for historians are the accounts of the numerous travellers who visited Andorra in the
19th century and the first half of the 20th. The transformation undergone by the landscape in the past decade
lends special value to the descriptions made by those persons who visited our land in the past.
The diaries of many of those travellers also describe Andorra's customs, festivals, dress or inns and what the
Andorrans of the times offered them to eat. All told, these accounts form an invaluable source of information.
Of special note are the books by English travellers and the search for them has been intensified in recent years.
The French inhabitants of the Pyrenean area also showed a great interest in Andorra and visited it often.
Here we should mention the members of the Club Alpin Français and of the Société Ramond. From the other side
of the border, many members of the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya visited this part of the Pyrenees.
For reasons of conservation and safety, this section is not freely accessible and users must request
the Library staff for the documents that interest them.
