The increase of the bibliographic holdings, the growth of the number of users and the multiplicity of functions carried out
by the National Library made it necessary to proceed to a restructuring of the service.

The Andorran bibliographical fonds and the services proper to a national library were transferred in September 1996 to the
premises of the Casa (house) Bauró. The rest of the fonds and services became the Government Public Library.

The Casa Bauró is an ancient manor situated in the heart of the old quarter of Andorra la Vella and it became the warm inviting
home of the National Library in its new period of existence.
